We have a dedicated and hard working team (that make us look good!) of five, who manage the behind the scenes elements of the conference planning, such as the registration processing, accounts, administration and of course our onsite management.

Arna Wahl Davies
Director, Client & Communications Manager
Co-founder and Client and Communication Manager for Composition, Arna is passionate about organising conferences. Spend five minutes with her and you will know that she was born to manage your conference. Her first memories are of being in her family’s restaurant, learning the tricks of the trade and dreaming of hosting large gatherings.
For Arna, her love for conference management starts with the long lead-in times that allow for careful preparation through to the excitement that increases exponentially as the opening day grows closer. It also includes the feverish yet organised buzz that occurs during the event; and finally, the satisfaction gained afterwards from knowing she has fulfilled her client’s expectations.
Arna has been involved in the hospitality, event management, and professional conference organising industry for over 20 years. After working in her family’s restaurant, she gained a professional qualification in food and beverage and worked through the ranks in a renowned Auckland eatery to become a head chef.
Event management beckoned, however, and she cut her teeth working for a couple of international hotel chains, before moving into a dedicated role as a senior event manager for New Zealand’s largest professional conference company. Spotting her obvious talent they sent her to Auckland to set up their new office. There she worked at all levels of event management including managing the larger and more complex international conferences of up to 1,500 delegates and with correspondingly large budgets of up to $1M.
This has given her a good understanding of what works and where things can go wrong. She also knows how to keep the stress under wraps and away from the client, so they can enjoy their conference just as much as the delegates do.
Arna enjoys the relationships she creates with her clients. She sees her role as providing a path and a structure for her clients to build their event around. She keeps things on track, is a leader when required and finds solutions to problems, quickly and professionally.
Arna co-founded Composition because she is a professional conference organiser through and through. Her final words on why she does what she does. “It’s all project management, I love it.”

Director, Operations & Logistics Manager
Conference delegates generally dislike conference registration; the misspelt name badges, waiting for airlines to deliver misplaced suitcases, and worrying about whether the venue’s technology will talk to their iPad or not. Not on Nerida’s watch they don’t.
As the Operations and Logistics Manager for Composition, her role is to oversee all the delegate registrations, manage the online software the company uses to record event registrations, and personalise the registration packs. She also creates unique social functions, assists in preparing event budgets and project plans and liaises with sponsors and exhibitors at the conference, ensuring everything runs smoothly and according to plan.
Nerida is more than qualified to fulfil this role. Her experiences are many and varied and she is passionate about the work she does. She also knows a thing or two about marketing, travel and event management.
Her first role in marketing, after completing a degree in tourism, was as the Marketing Manager for a leading New Zealand tourism resort. Wanting a new challenge, she became the iSITE Marketing Manager for Tourism New Zealand. Her role involved managing the brand standards for 86 iSITES and implementing their multi-faceted marketing strategy.
It was while helping coordinate their annual conference that she discovered a talent for event management. Wanting to do more, she changed direction and moved into professional event management fulltime, gaining considerable experience working for an internationally renowned event management company.
After a couple of years as a conference and event manager, she decided to start her own company with Arna. Together, they are dedicated to ensuring their clients receive a personalised and professional service that caters to their every need.
Nerida loves organising conferences because each event is different, with its own challenges and rewards, and she gets to use all of the skills she has gained over the years.
Having traveled the world and experienced many different cultures and world perspectives, Nerida also enjoys the variety of people she meets whilst working on a conference. Her final word on why she loves what she does, “I get to build relationships with clients; learn about so many different services and professions from their point of view; and make sure their conference delegates leave with a positive impression of them and New Zealand. What’s not to love about my job?”.
